Keiser University Students Gain Hands-On Experience at Golf Match and Camp

Florida Golf College Student Volunteers

Keiser University Bachelor of Science in Sport Management students recently enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer at South Florida’s Tri-County Junior Golf Match and a partnering Junior Golf Foundation of America (JGFA) camp. In addition to assisting with staging and other preparations for the match, group members served as rules officials, driving range attendants, walking scorers, and shuttle drivers. “While many of our associates and student volunteers regularly enjoy playing in tournaments and attending sports camps, the opportunity to participate in back-end duties such as organizing and planning tournaments is invaluable,” said Keiser University College of Golf Professor Donna White. The JGFA camp held on the driving range while the Tri-County matches were conducted, also presented opportunities for several Keiser students to gain practical experience as they assisted PGA and LPGA staff members with registration, station rotation, and instruction. The 33rd Annual Tri-County Junior Golf Matches featured 90 junior golfers from Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties. The nonprofit Junior Golf Foundation of America (JFGA) was co-founded by White, who also organized and conducted the event at the Okeeheelee Golf Course. The 25th inductee into the prestigious LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Hall of Fame since its inception in 2000, White, a graduate of the University of Florida earned her LPGA Tour card in 1977, winning three times on the LPGA Tour before retiring in 1992. She then transitioned from a professional golfer to a golf professional, becoming one of the first women to own and operate a golf professional concession company, Golf Professional Services, Inc. In 1995, she co-founded the Junior Golf Foundation of America to serve as the junior golf development arm of her business. In 2010, White semi-retired from her company and now enjoys her ‘encore career’ as a professor at the Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management, where she recently earned her Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in Teaching and Learning.
