Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management Teams with First Tee Program

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Expanding educational experiences for its students, Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management (COGSM) has partnered with The First Tee of the Treasure Coast to provide First Tee Assistant Coach Training Certification to students which have met academic requirements and dedicated themselves to The First Tee Program.

Fifty Keiser University COGSM students, who volunteered to participate, will be selected for the certification program based on their grade point average and willingness to volunteer their time in support of The First Tee Program.

“The Assistant Coach Training Certification is the first step toward achieving The First Tee Coach Certification, and we’re very proud to introduce this new opportunity for advanced education at Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management,” says John McMurry, campus vice president of Keiser University COGSM. “The core values of the First Tee Program embody the same value system and professional principles that we try to instill within our students. The youth are the future of our society and our sport, so we believe it’s very important that we provide our students with the best possible educational opportunities that will allow them to prepare for the growing challenges of golfers today as well as the golfers of tomorrow.”

One of the most successful junior golf programs in the history of the game, The First Tee helps young people understand and ultimately develop core values like honesty, integrity and judgment through golf. The First Tee Assistant Coach Training Certification allows KUCOGSM students to assist in delivering The First Tee programs to local participants in a clinic format. The First Tee Program stresses the nine core values of Courtesy, Confidence, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Sportsmanship, and Judgment. These nine core values are delivered simultaneously with golf instruction to ensure graduates of The First Tee Program have an appreciation of the importance of life skills and the history and tradition of the game of golf, in addition to improved skills on the golf course.

Keiser University COGSM is well-known for its Associate of Science Degree in Golf which prepares students to provide golf instruction, manage golf course operations, ensure appropriate maintenance of golf facilities and equipment, as well as integrate the play of golf into the broader hospitality and recreation domain. The Keiser University COGSM Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management is designed to prepare students for careers in sport-related industries with concentrations in either Golf, Psychology and Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology. This is a 120-credit program geared to admit students right out of high school. For graduates of an accredited institution who hold an Associate’s Degree or higher and have six months of employment in hospitality, fitness, sports, recreation, golf or a related field, the Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport Management can be obtained as a completion degree entirely online in as few as 20 months.
